Winter - Spring programme released

Here is the Winter-Spring programme for the first half or 2015.

We have slightly reduced the number of downriver races as they take longer than normal races, and put them into their own series (with Trophy). There will be one Powder Monkey Race per quarter now, with the aim of given the young sailors more opportunity to get involved as helm. Otherwise there is the usual mix of club and trophy races, open meetings, work days and club nights. Of course there is also the mid-week series again.

125th Anniversary Tideway Race - Details

Start September 14th at 12:15

As many of you have heard already, the plan for a BIG Tideway Race this coming Sunday had to be abandoned due to a bout of pronounced risk aversion by the PLA. Still, we will go ahead with a mini-Tideway Race towards Vauxhall Bridge with South Bank joining us and a few others potentially too.

Start is at 12:15, low water at Chelsea Bridge at 13:05, the turning mark will likely be reached when the Tide turns at about 13:30. By about 14:30, we should be back – in time to grab some food and a drink.

Trafalgar Battle on the Thames

In accordances with historic facts, the French speaking fleet at Ranealgh was convincingly destroyed by the English column.

Photo Finish at the RSC Merlin Open

After heavy rainfall in the morning, conditions improved for an almost perfect Tideway race for more than 20 Merlins. A long Spinnaker run downriver to Battersea Power Station was followed by a demanding beat back to Putney. The lead changes at least 15 times during the race and much depended on catching the right shifts on the way back. After more than 2 hours racing Fran Gifford won with less than a quarter boatlength in a true photo finish.

Work in Progress - Changes to Calendar

Nick W. and TS are currently experimenting with calendar synchronisation. This may cause some temporary double entries for events in June. Apologies for any confusion.

The plan is to synchronise our calendar to a public Google calendar, which can be linked into personal calendars. We will give more instructions on how to do this when we have tested the new feature.

RSC Midweek Series #3 on Wednesday

We are well into this year’s RSC Midweek Series but unfortunately a change in email distribution lists has left quite a few people out of the loop. Apologies for those who have missed the first two races as a result.

Anyway, the next race is scheduled for Wednesday night (21/5) starting at 18:45.

The forecast is for a busy sky with dark clouds and sun. Force 3 winds from the east may freshen up under the clouds.

Club race on May 17th is cancelled due to rowing activity

The river will be very busy during the Putney Town Regatta rowing race and the slipway even more crowded. No chance we can get our boats out. We have to cancel our race.

Club Race on Sunday the 18th is scheduled to go ahead as planned.

A sparklingly clean boathouse....

Another burgee bites the dust......

Good turnout at today's Workday at 9:30. We cleaned out all the boatsheds, which had become quite muddy form the many high tides recently coming across the road.

Sail bags, boat covers and old sails were being sorted and organised. Greg, Chris I. and Nick L. fixed club boats, while Chris E. was in charge of cleaning out the trailer park. Una finished her plastering work in the men's changing room and a new hosepipe was also installed. Una and Nick also cut an old trolley into handy pieces that could go into the dump.
